Motorbike Windshields

Forming

Motorbike windshield series are manufactured by deep-drawing transparent plastic sheets. Most important criteria for a successful result are perfect brilliance and optical quality on one hand and efficient processes on the other hand. The shape and character of the windshield decide which forming method will be applied in order to comply with both requirements regarding the shape and optical properties. Our machines allow for all the forming methods such as deep-drawing, pressure forming or vacuum forming. The sheets can be as big as 2,000 x 3,000 mm.

Series are manufactured just-in-time according to the dates requested by our customers. Stock administration and costs are remarkably reduced. Deep-drawing is a cost and time efficient alternative as opposed to injection moulding. Tooling can be achieved quicker and at lower prices. In addition the high optical quality of the raw material is maintained.

Milling

After the forming, the parts are NC milled in our milling department. Several multi axis robots for different sizes are available. The repeatability of the parts is about 99% giving a great advantage in terms of precise fitting and further processing in the production lines of our customers.

Final Inspection

Our Quality Management System is certified in compliance with DIN EN 9100:2003. In order to keep the high quality standard our windshields are submitted to a final inspection at the end of the manufacturing process. The windshields are thouroughly cleaned for this purpose. Only those windshields that are optically spotless are approved for shipping. During the transport the windshields are protected to avoid scratches.

Material

Windshields are manufactured from transparent and tinted transparent sheets with different properties. Polycarbonate, such as Makrolon® and Lexan® are famous for their extremely high break resistance. Anti-abrasive components added during the extrusion of the sheets enhance their properties. Plexiglas® is very weather resistant and does not turn yellow when exposed to sunlight. Plexiglas® resist®, which is the impact-modified variation provides also greater break resistance. Additionally an anti-abrasive coating can be applied to all sorts of Plexiglas®. Each material is certified for motorbike purposes.
