Glazing: Innovative Manufacturing Methods in North America

The Josef Weiss Plastic Group is pleased to anounce the launch of a new subsidiary in Trois-Rivières, Québec (Canada). The aim of the new company is to service the North American Aviation market with three-dimensionally formed aircraft and helicopter glazing using proprietary manufacturing methods well established in Europe. Josef Weiss Plastic Group will bring unique processes to better serve existing and new customers operating in the U.S. and Canada. For decades, the company specialized in thermal forming of thermoplastics such as acrylics and polycarbonates. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), they fabricate large complex shape transparencies that require high optical quality and occasionally special anti-abrasive coatings such as the three-dimensional deformed discs found on the EC135, and EC145 helicopters or the Bombardier CRJ series aircraft.

The Canadian subsidiary known as: Plastique JW Inc. / JW Plastic Inc., is currently being set-up and is scheduled to begin operations by years end. The initial operational focus will be to train new employees in the fabrication of moulds and the forming methods of glazing. Over the next three years the company will be gradually expanding their capabilities, introducing CNC milling, stamping, painting and other special processes such as the application of abrasion-resistant coatings. Eventually, the plant will be able to manufacture the complete series of glazing products ranging from Canopies to Wing Tip and Landing Light Covers. A 2500 sqm plant in Trois-Rivières will, in a short time, provide a workplace for 20 new employees. The site will be led by the co-owner and CEO of the German parent company, Mr. Stephan Brecht.

Josef Weiss Plastic GmbH is one of the leading manufacturers of plastic glazing for the aviation and automotive industry. They are capable of producing complex three-dimensional forms with high optical requirements, an increasing requirement in the industry. The company is certified to DIN EN 9100:2003 standards in Europe and will be certified to the equivalent AS 9100 standard in Canada. The company is privately owned and has its headquarters in Hofolding Germany (near Munich). Josef Weiss Plastic CZ sro, is a subsidiary of Josef Weiss Plastic GmbH, it is headquartered in the Czech Republic and employs 15 staff in a 2000 sqm plant.
