Flying is mainly fascinating because of the stunning views you get from up among the clouds. However, a clear view during a flight is also key. It is a given that every pilot should be able to look through brilliantly clear panes. This is why we have been producing premium aircraft glazing and helicopter window panes consisting of PLEXIGLAS® for more than 50 years. Visual criteria such as material inclusions and distortions are important factors and are assessed during every processing step. The aviation industry relies on our quality. For the interior of aircraft we process fire-resistant and also non-transparent materials which meet the high safety requirements of the aviation industry. For larger scale serial and efficient production, we employ semi-automated processing. The cost-efficient production of smaller series or prototypes can be realized by choosing suitable tools and manufacturing methods.

Large-scale visibility

They have long been established in gliders and, over the past 10 years, we also contributed to their establishment in the ultralight aircraft segment. We are talking about large-scale, single-piece aircraft canopies. They offer views which are unrestricted by frames. The production of single-piece aircraft canopies requires a lot of experience in PLEXIGLAS® processing as well as well-coordinated and controllable processes The canopies leaving our works are of immaculate optical quality.

 

 

Controlled Quality

Inspections form part of every processing step, starting with the raw material, which is checked for material inclusions and impurity. Inadmissible distortions will be detected no later than during the pre-delivery inspection.. We guarantee a streak- and distortion-free view, as confirmed by satisfied customers and our DIN EN 9100:2003 certification.

 

 

Series and Prototype

This makes for ideal manufacturing conditions for aircraft canopies. Our clients can rely on punctual delivery and excellent quality. The panes are accurately post-processed by modern NC-controlled machines. For prototypes, we employ simpler and therefore more cost-efficient methods of production.

 

UV-Protection

We manufacture aircraft window panes from high-quality materials. Colourless and tinted panes are available. All of them offer UV-protection which guarantees the longevity of the interior equipment.  Yellow tinting is no longer an issue since the manufacturer grants a 30-year guarantee that the material does not yellow.

 

Hinged Pivoted Window

Should you require more air, a hinged pivoted window is an easy solution. It can be installed in no time. The window is 83 mm in diameter and only available without colour. It is especially suitable for straight or slightly arched panes with a thickness of between 1.5 and 5 mm.

 

Sliding Window

We offer colour-coordinated sliding windows that match the aircraft canopy.

In many areas of aviation, composite glazing has become an integral part. The standard glazing of the helicopter EC135 is composed of, e.g., two cockpit-halves, nose windows, leaf and sliding door windows as well as side windows. Production-wise, each part is challenging in its own right. Due to its size of approx. 2 sqm, the expert touch of experienced employees is required to achieve an visually flawless product. Deformed panes of this size have a high tendency to develop distortions, which is, of course, unacceptable.

 

The other window panes are partly equipped with specially designed sliding windows. Production of the corresponding, non-transparent frames is carried out in the Thermoforming and NC-Post-Processing departments.. Fitting accuracy in series facilitates the incorporation of the respective component in our client’s manufacturing process.

 

For the aviation sector, we mainly work with high-quality polycarbonate which offers the best visual properties. This material also has UV-protective properties and is very easy to maintain. As a special feature, PLEXIGLAS® can be coated with a abrasion-resistant layer. This provides better pane protection from scratches during normal flight operation.

 

Covers for landing lights and wing tips must endure some wear and tear during flight operation. This is why resistant materials are required in order to achieve cost-efficient durability. In cooperation with Goodrich Lighting Systems a concept was devised, which is more resistant than the polycarbonate that has been used to date. The properties of acrylic glass demonstrate its superiority. In a flight test, one wing was equipped with a wing tip consisting of polycarbonate and the other wing with wing tips covered in acrylic glass. After 100 hours of flying, the PLEXIGLAS® showed significantly less micro-cracks and the covers remained extremely clear and transparent.

Weather-Resistance

The manufacturer of polycarbonate, grants a 30-year guarantee that its material does not yellow. Furthermore, acrylic glass is an easy-to-maintain material because traces of usage can frequently be  removed by polishing.

 

Series and Prototype

Serial production in our thermoforming machines achieves an optimal fit. Post-processing is conducted in NC-controlled milling robots. This secures an almost 100% repeatability. This makes for ideal conditions to finish the products at the client’s premises.

 

The interior equipment of passenger compartments in commercial aircraft is subject to strict fire protection criteria. Carpeting and fabrics but also plastic materials must be flame-resistant for the aircraft to be approved and licensed. For Airbus we use PPSU-plates since they meet the respective requirements. Our thermoforming machines produce receiver cradles and information pillars, which are cut true to size by NC-controlled milling machines during. This creates reliable standard products which can be seamlessly finished at the client’s.
